Visalia beats Modesto 3-1 | Miami Herald


VISALIA, Calif. (AP) — Jose Caballero scored when a runner was thrown out in the first inning, main the Visalia Rawhide to a 3-1 win over the Modesto Nuts on Monday.

Caballero scored on the play to offer the Rawhide a 1-0 lead after he was hit with a pitch to steer off the inning and stole second.

With the score tied 1-1 in the fourth, the Rawhide took the lead for good when Anfernee Grier hit an RBI single, driving in Luis Alejandro Basabe.

Visalia right-hander Jeff Bain (four-1) picked up a top quality begin and the win after allowing one run on six hits over six innings. Opposing starter Austin Hutchison (1-5) took the robust loss within the California League recreation after allowing two runs and 5 hits over five innings.

Nick Thurman homered and singled for the Nuts.

With the win, Visalia stays undefeated (4-zero) towards Modesto this season.
