Search for Camp Pendleton Marine, missing on Sierra Nevada hike, is scaled back

Authorities who have intensively searched since March four for a Camp Pendleton Marine missing on a Sierra Nevada trek introduced on Saturday that they are curtailing their efforts.

Inyo County sheriff’s officers stated they’ll transition to a “restricted steady search standing” till 1st Lt. Matthew Kraft, 24, from Washington, Conn., is found.

The sheriff’s web site has posted updates on their search efforts via extreme weather circumstances, but on Saturday officials stated there can be no more updates after Monday.

Kraft went missing after setting out on what he planned as a ten-day solo climbing and skiing trek throughout the Sierra Excessive Route, which stretches from Kings Canyon National Park northward to Yosemite National Park. The 195-mile route, along elevations from 9,000 ft to 12,000 ft, is covered in deep snow through the winter.

Kraft was to start his trip on the Kearsarge Move Path on Feb. 23 and finish it close to Bridgeport in Mono County on March four or 5, authorities stated.

When he did not contact anyone by then, his father referred to as the Mono County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies there checked trailheads and traced Kraft’s final cellphone exercise to the Independence space of Inyo County.

Kraft’s grey two-door 2016 Jeep Wrangler was discovered on March 8 close to Lower Grays Meadows above Independence. Inyo County deputies took over the search, aided by search and rescue groups, the Marine Corps, Air Nationwide Guard and different county, state and federal businesses.

Inyo County authorities stated avalanche circumstances, snow bridges and high winds have hampered the searches overlaying an area the dimensions of Rhode Island.

Anybody with details about Kraft’s whereabouts might contact the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office at (760) 878-0383, choice four; Mono County Sheriff’s Workplace at (760) 932-7549, choice 7; or Fresno County Sheriff’s Workplace at (559) 600-8400.
