SACRAMENTO — The town of Sacramento finalized one of the largest settlement payouts in its history Tuesday, which was the result of an excessive pressure lawsuit towards the Sacramento Police Division courting back to 2017.
Greater than two years after Sacramento cops chased down then 34-yr-previous John Hernandez, wrestled him to the ground, shocked him with a stun gun and hit him with a baton, the town of Sacramento is now paying out to the tune of $5.2 million.
“We allege that the division had improperly used the weapons they used,” stated civil rights lawyer John Burris.
The lawsuit alleges the beating Hernandez took was excessive and left him with permanent brain injury.
He had to relearn to stroll, eat and speak, and he now requires 24-hour care.
“I’m indignant. I’m really indignant and I’m really harm that they’d do this to him,” stated his mom, Debbie, eight months after the incident.
It was March 6, 2017, when officers acquired a call a few man seemingly on medicine. They are saying he was threatening to struggle individuals outdoors an East Sacramento Ceremony Assist, based on courtroom documents.
After Hernandez ran from officers into a Sutter Health medical facility, three officers tried to detain him.
