Officer shoots suspect armed with hatchet at Walmart in Huntsville


HUNTSVILLE, Texas (KTRK) —

The Huntsville Police Department stated a man carrying a hatchet was shot by an officer whereas authorities tried to get him to drop the axe.

The incident occurred on 141 IH-forty five in a Walmart parking zone on Friday at round eight:forty five p.m. when officers stated they approached the person in an try and get him to drop the hatchet.

Moments later, extra officers arrived to the scene and continued to advise the person to drop the item.

Police say when the man began coming in the direction of them, and officers tased him, but to no impact.

Authorities say the person continued to walk in the direction of them and one officer discharged his weapon, capturing the suspect.

Officers referred to as Huntsville-Walker Co. Emergency Medical Providers to the scene to treat the suspect for his accidents. He was later transported to Conroe Regional Hospital.

“Because of the quick actions of our officers, a dangerous suspect was prevented from harming them or another members of our group. Please be a part of us in prayers for all involved,” Chief Kevin Lunsford stated.

Texas Rangers are aiding with the investigation, and costs for the suspect are pending.
