Houston restaurant crash: 1 killed when SUV slams into building

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — One individual has died after an SUV slammed into a restaurant in southeast Houston.

In accordance with Houston police, the crash occurred within the 5900 block of Martin Luther King at around 11:40 a.m. Wednesday. Signs bearing the situation determine it as Medi Grill.

An SUV hit the building and stored going throughout, coming to a stop at the reverse wall.

Surveillance video captured the SUV barreling via the restaurant. It took out a wall and every thing in its path. Staff arrived just 30 minutes earlier.

“We received fortunate as a result of there was no one in there,” stated Ahmed Rajhed of Medi Grill, who added at the least six individuals would have normally been inside.

“I thank God there are not any different injuries. None of my relations have been there,” he stated.

In response to police, the 55-yr-previous driver was killed. Nobody else was harm.

Police say the driving force had a minor crash just down the street previous to slamming into the building. A witness named Dominique noticed the aftermath and checked on the driving force.

“He stopped there for a minute,” stated Dominque, recalling a chemical odor on the person.

“Whereas we was strolling off, he opened his automotive door and he was hitting it (the automotive), in order that’s how I know he was actually tousled,” she stated.

Toxicology results will present if he was beneath the influence.

“We feel unhappy for them, sorry for them, but I consider he was doing means greater than the velocity limit,” stated Rajhed.
