Houston-bound Delta jet has small fire before takeoff at LaGuardia


NEW YORK, New York (KTRK) —

A small hearth erupted in the cabin of a Delta jet sure for Houston as passengers boarded the airline.

In video captured on the aircraft at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday, a small flame is seen coming from a bag in an overhead compartment.

Further video confirmed a flight attendant utilizing a fireplace extinguisher to put out the hearth.

No one seemed to be injured and the incident happened whereas the aircraft was on the bottom.

A press release obtained by ABC Information indicated the hearth came from contents inside the bag:

“While boarding SkyWest flight 3879, operating as Delta Connection from LaGuardia to Houston, smoke appeared from a passenger’s bag in an overhead bin, brought on by an overheated battery pack contained in the bag. Passengers deplaned routinely by way of the primary cabin door and we’re working to assist our clients resume their travels to Houston on a unique aircraft as shortly as potential.”

The aircraft’s schedule departure was pushed back greater than two hours following the small hearth.
